Take a closer look at the 68-31 vote

It was thrilling to watch the confirmation of Sonia Sotomayor to the United States Supreme Court. The final Senate vote was 68 Yeas, 31 Nays and 1 not voting (Kennedy D-MA).

While she won Senate approval, the vote remained divided along party lines. I have been analyzing the vote breakdown and only 9 Republicans backed Sotomayor and, curiously enough, 4 of them are retiring in 2010.

Sotomayor is the first Democratic nominee to be added to the Court in 15 years. Why such a reluctance for change on the part of so many Republicans?

Take a look at an analysis I have posted on my website and lets talk about it next week. I am sure you will find some interesting trends.
