Today is the final day of debate on the nomination of Judge Sonia Sotomayor to the Supreme Court.
If confirmed, Sotomayor would be the first Hispanic justice, the third woman justice and the 111th person to sit on the Supreme Court.
As a nation, we are on the brink of history yet again as another leader emerges from the Latino community. As Texans, we live in a state where Latinos are the largest growing demographic and the votes cast today from our Texas Senators will speak volumes to so many Latino voters.
I want to give a special shout out to the former Executive Vice President of the American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations, Linda Chavez-Thompson who showed off her "Wise Latina" shirt at a panel discussion on Sotomayor last month.
